I just recently went and saw Nicolas Cage’s new movie “Knowing.” After seeing that it got a “four star” rating from Roger Ebert I thought it was going to be very good. I was wrong!! The special effects in this movie are pitiful. There is one particular scene in which a plane crashes and people are shown running on fire. The fire looks so incredibly computer generated and the whole scene looks green screen shot. I went into this movie with high hopes, and came out completely disappointed

The Big Lebowski

After talking about The Coen Brothers and there movies I felt the need to talk about The Big Lebowski. This movie has so many great quotes from it, one of them being “Over the line!!!” Every time I hear John Goodman yell that out and then pull out his “piece” to argue that he was over the line, I can’t stop laughing. It is truly one of the funniest moments I have ever seen in film, and his actions got them into the round robin tournament! If you have never seen this movie then you probably have no idea what I am talking about, but i highly recommend this movie to anybody.

The Coen Brothers

I would like to talk about the Coen brothers. Their work simply amazes me. They continue to produce great story after great story. Spreading from there work on the comedy The Big Lebowski to the dark thriller No Country for Old Men, the Coen brothers are arguably one the greatest directing/writing/producing teams in history.

Judd Apatow

I am a huge fan of Judd Apatow’s work. From his early work on “The Cable Guy,” to his latest work on “The Pineapple Express,” which may be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I really like the way he takes not big actors, and makes them into really big stars. I had never heard of Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan, Bill Hader or Michael Cera until the making of Superbad. Now they are all huge stars. Apatow is currently coming out with three new films. “The Year One,” “Funny People, and “Get Him to the Greek.”

Coraline

I just recently was told by a friend of mine who attends Pacific University in Forest Grove (my old school) that the new animated movie Coraline that was released last week was actually produced in Hillsboro, Oregon. I went and saw this movie and thought that the animation could have had a little smoother transitions in certain spots, but overall it was very well done (especailly for it to be in 3D) It now seems that every animated movie that is coming out is going to be in three dimensional form. Ice Age, Monsters vs. Aliens, and UP are all going to be in 3D.

For a movie poster assignment in my Digital Media class I decided to take the original “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” movie poster and manipulate it into a collage. I took the artwork of Ralph Steadman and worked it into the picture. I find his work to be very interesting.

Guy Ritchie

I just recently watched Guy Ritchie’s latest film, “RocknRolla.” I really enjoy the style of Ritchie’s movies. his fast paced confusing story lines really tend to draw you in and make you pay attention. His 2000 hit movie “Snatch,” is one of my all time personal favorite movies. Ritchie takes a huge cast of chaacters with a variety of stories and brings them all together into one crazy roller coaster ride of a movie. Ritchie has several films due to come out including the newest Sherlock Holmes movie played by Robert Downey Jr.

Alphabet Soup

Our last assignment in class was to find shapes in nature that resembled letters of the alphabet. I did not find this very difficult because I live up in the hills, and trees seem to tangle and twist themselves into many different shapes. Here are just a few I took. More pictures still to be posted.
